Frozen Review

Out of all the Disney princess movies, no one could have expected that the Norwegian one with the redhead, magical queen, and talking snowman would be such big hit. Yet, Frozen surpassed The Lion King in ticket sales very early after it had been released.

Frozen is an action story based off of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Snow Queen.” It is a tale of two parentless sisters who have not ever seen daylight. Elsa, the older of the two, is a nervous girl with magical ice powers who does not dare to reveal them to her younger sister, Anna (Ah-na), an over excited young woman who is desperate for love. Elsa manages to hide her powers by “concealing not feeling” from everyone until “Coronation Day,” where she exposes her powers to the kingdom of Arendelle when she is enraged at Anna, causing her to lose control of her powers. Coronation Day also brings a man named Prince Hans into Anna’s life, and they immediately arrange to be married, which also causes Elsa to expose her powers because “you can’t marry a man you just met that day.”

Elsa flees Arendelle and goes through a complete transformation in the movie’s Oscar winning feature song “Let It Go.” Also by releasing her powers, Elsa freezes Arendelle in the middle of summer. Anna becomes worried about Elsa and rushes to save her, leaving Prince Hans in charge. Along the way, Anna meets a talking snowman and man whose best friend is a reindeer. When she reaches Elsa’s ice palace, she and Elsa have a conflict because Elsa wants to protect Anna by not communicating with Anna ever again.

This movie is the best movie I have seen for awhile; it is my favorite movie. It has  powerful songs with chilling, breath-taking voices singing them: Idina Menzel, a legendary Broadway actress and Tony award winner in Wicked and Rent, Kristen Bell; an accomplished actress in shows like Gossip Girl , and so many more. The songs are so inspiring, especially “Let It Go” and “For the First Time in Forever.” It also has much humor: Olaf the snowman is especially funny, dreaming of what he (a snowman) could do in summer. Frozen along with its feature song “Let it Go” are Oscar winning, so you now have my approval along with the entire Academy’s of this exciting film.

This film is fun for all ages! Many eighth graders love this film. The film appeals to them because of the characters’ cuteness and the lyrics that they can relate to and burst out singing. The first graders like this because of its funny and strong characters and dancing music. Helen in first grade likes this movie because “the songs are really good and I like singing them.”

I would highly recommend Frozen, it has great messages about the powers of true love and how you should not marry a man you met that day, but mixes in a good storyline, wonderful music, and characters you are sure to love. Now, let me ask you: Do you want to build a snowman?
