Shorewood’s Newest Hotspots

Maggie, Off Campus

Looking for a new restaurant to eat at with friends? Well, look no further than Shorewood’s very own Oakland Avenue! In the past several months, two new restaurants, The Ruckus and Mod Pizza, have opened up on this street..

The Ruckus is described as “A spicy twist on the classic burger and ice cream joint” according their web page. Their high-quality ingredients come from locally owned Wisconsin businesses and several other farms throughout Iowa and Illinois. Serving meals with such high-quality food draws many crowds to eat here. The Ruckus serves burgers, fries, ice cream, and churros. St. Robert student Lucy tells The White and Blue Press, “The food is very tasty. My personal favorite are the mini churros because the dough, coated with delicious sugar, is so soft. The burgers and fries are flavorful and a creamy vanilla shake is perfect for any day.” The Ruckus is also a unique place because of bright and bustling atmosphere. “It’s like modern meets rustic,” says 7th grader Kiki. This restaurant’s interior is made up of retro spinning stools, with checkered floors and vibrant colored paintings.

Even more recent than The Ruckus, a new restaurant has opened up on Oakland. This new restaurant is called Mod Pizza. This pizza joint has many different variations of America’s signature food, and offers a variety of different toppings! Lucy also went to Mod Pizza and loves it, “Especially because you can design your own mini pizzas. You can choose toppings and create a perfect meal for yourself. They also serve the pizza fast and efficiently, and it is nice to have everything for one price.” Mod offers build your own pizzas, which makes it very popular. The atmosphere of Mod is very fun and captures how cool and unique the Shorewood community is. Surprisingly, Mod doesn’t just serve pizza, they also serve something to tame the sweet tooth. At Mod, they also serve cinnamon sticks – pizza dough cooked and topped with butter and cinnamon. Yummy!

Whether you’re looking for hip burger shack or a modern spin on pizza pie, these two restaurants in Shorewood are sure to be a great stop to grab a bite, hang out with friends, or anything else you can think of!
