Adidas Originals

Madeline S., Fashion Editor

As you’ve probably seen, Adidas Originals have been wildly popular in the past year. The classic three stripes can be seen nearly everywhere, especially on young girls. The most popular style of the Originals are the Superstars.

These shoes were popularized in the 1960s when basketball players in the NBA wore them in their games. In the mid-80s, the popular hip-hop band Run D.M.C. made the Superstars their signature look to wear onstage. They even titled one of their songs “My Adidas” which further popularized the look. These moves made Superstars a style staple of 1980s. The Stan Smiths, an Adidas shoe named for a professional tennis player, feature the classic three stripes as well. Originally produced 1963, the Stan Smith sneaker was called the Robert Haillet sneaker after the famous French tennis player. A couple years later, Adidas decided the classic shoe needed an update. Their next show was named after Stan Smith, an American pro tennis player.

By 1971, the Stan Smith sneaker became one of Adidas’ best-selling shoe styles. About a year ago, both of these styles once again caught the eye of vintage style influencers, popularizing them once again. There are many other styles of Originals, but those two are probably the most classic.

Ways to Wear Adidas Sneakers:

  • The great thing about the Originals is that they go with absolutely everything. If you want to dress down a dress you wore to an event, throw on Superstars.
  • If you want to make your jeans and tee look more athletic, wear your Stan Smiths. They also come in a variety of different colors (a ridiculous amount of colors), so there are many to choose from.
  • Wearing the originals with denim shorts is going to be a huge trend this summer because both are staples that many people already have and because sporting the two together is simplistic but still stylish.

Truly these two styles of Adidas are so simplistic and so classic that they go with literally everything. They can elevate a look to a level of polished sophistication with a hint of vintage street style flair.
