St. Robert has two new band teachers this year, Dr. Corley and Mr. Arendt. After the former band director Mr. Zolinski left, rumors went around that the band program was discontinued at St. Robert, but the band program is up and running. Many are delighted to know that their fears of losing the band program have not come true.
Dr. Corley graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, majoring in music. Mr. Arendt is a graduate student at UWM, studying under Dr. Corley. Both individuals have held previous teaching roles throughout their music careers. Their goals for this school year is for all the students to have a fun experience in the new band program.
Despite the band returning this school year, some students chose to transfer from band to choir, which has made the choir classes much larger. “We want to even out the band program with the choir program,” Mr. Corley states. Because of this desire to increase the size of the band program, the band teachers are letting kids join who weren’t in the band in the past. As they aim to do this, they highlighted some of their favorite instruments the first few weeks of school to entice kids to join. Mr. Arendt’s favors the trombone while Dr. Corley loves the trumpet.. Mr. Arendt also really likes the saxophone. Mr.
Arendt was in a band program at UWM, and this has inspired to become a band teacher. “I really want to teach my students the skills that I learned from my teacher at UWM,” Mr. Arendt states.
Their goals for this school are to have fun, inspire the students to love band, and help them to learn how to play an instrument. “I think band should be a fun experience with playing an instrument and being able to engage with the other students who play different instruments,” Dr. Corely said. They want to expand the band program so more students can join.
Dr. Corley and Mr. Arendt are great additions to the St. Robert community. Students are fortunate to have not just one, but two experts to guide them in their musical education.. Dr. Corley and Mr. Arendt are very excited to teach at St. Robert this year, and their enthusiasm is infectious.

As a member of the band, we are in need of more people. I would encourage students in St. Robert school to do band because these two teachers make playing fun while learning a lot.
