In July of 2023, the Shorewood Little League baseball team made it all the way to Nationals in the Little League World Series (LLWS). The LLWS games happened in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and one St. Robert student was a part of this incredible experience. William, a 7th grade boy in Ms. Moede’s homeroom class, was a member of this incredible Shorewood team to have made it to Williamsport this past summer.
“I love to play sports. I play baseball, basketball, and volleyball,” said William. William has one brother at St. Robert, and his mom teaches at St. Robert as well. William takes part in St. Robert athletics, but was able to find amazing success during the Shorewood baseball season, outside of school.
According to William, “Going to Pennsylvania was really fun, from hanging out with teammates to winning the games.” He enjoyed his opportunity with LLWS as he was able to play baseball at a higher level as well as bond with his friends.
The LLWS is divided up into multiple rounds of competition. In the Midwest region round, teams had to lose 2 games in order to be eliminated. In the first game of the LLWS, Shorewood came out hot, winning 5-2 against Missouri due to some clutch hitting and pitching. In the second game, Shorewood lost 2-15 against North Dakota due to the inability to hit with runners in scoring position and not being able to consistently throw strikes.
However, the Shorewood team was not eliminated. They played a third game against Iowa. Shorewood kept it close, allowing only 2 runs the whole game. Unfortunately, Shorewood could not muster a run the whole game because Iowa’s pitcher threw a great game. Sadly, this was the end of a great run for the Shorewood team.
The team is not getting back together for 2024 because many players are moving onto other teams, hoping to elevate their levels of competition. William is transferring to Hitters, which is one of the most competitive teams in Wisconsin. There, William is hoping to repeat his success with the new team.
