As the school year comes to an end, St. Robert School’s most beloved tradition takes place in the parking lot: the parish fair. The fair takes place on the weekend before the last week of school, and it is filled with food, games, music, and so much more. The St. Robert Fair takes a lot of effort and time to prepare and run. St. Robert’s parent and alumnus, Kevin Casper, has taken up the duties as “the fair chair” for his second year.
It takes a lot of time to effectively plan the fair. Preparations are made months in advance. Casper states, “Hundreds of people attend the fair every year, that means that the fair committee has to find and supply food for all of the attendees. Most years the fair does normally have pizza, corn on the cob, baked beans, brats, and occasionally a food truck. In the fair there is also always a large selection of ice cream, baked goods, and of course, candy.”
The next most important thing about the fair is the entertainment; this year there is a great selection of live music carefully selected by the fair committee. Casper goes on to explain that not just music entertains, but “The fair also has lots of fun games for the younger variety like plinko, ring tosses, and the infamous minoe races. While also having face painting, an array of bouncy houses, and a rummage sale, it is a great place for all.” The fair suits all age groups and group sizes. Nothing at the fair is too expensive and has a variety of things to do.
Finding entertainment and food is not just all the fair committee needs to do. The fair committee doesn’t consist of too many people, so they definitely cannot run the entire fair without help from others. Casper then goes on to say “I run a team of great volunteers in charge of food, beverages, volunteers, rummage, ticket sales, entertainment, and prize redemption. There are a lot of big tasks like working with the vendors who set up the tents or bring in food.” That is why they need to coordinate a big group of volunteers to help. This great help is done by many parents and students at St. Robert. 8th grader, Carolina, has helped at the fair multiple times during her time at St. Robert: “I did face painting and it was very fun because I liked making kids happy, and painting cool things on their faces like spiderman or a butterfly. When I first volunteered I felt very excited and it made me feel like I had a real job. I also got to do it with my friends which was very fun.”
The fair is a great weekend filled with fun activities. Take time to indulge in some classic fair food and timeless games and great entertainment as Kevin Casper personally states “This year is the best lineup ever, by the way.” Don’t miss it on June 1st and 2nd. The fair is a great time for everyone!

I really liked how you included other peoples thoughts on the fair and I also liked how you went into detail on what’s all included at the fair.
