The graduation ceremony and celebration has been a yearly tradition at St. Robert for as long as the school has graduated students. Ms. Matthews is the coordinator for this great event. Although she works to coordinate the details, she allows the students to choose much of the content of the program.
This year the eighth grade is having every student share memories they have had about their years at St. Robert. To start the brainstorming process in order to put this together, the eighth grade thinks of events, songs, and memorable moments for each year they spent at St. Robert. Then each of them type out different scripts, explaining their memories. Students will share their class memories prior to graduation, so that the rest of the school can hear and reflect on their journeys.
The newest change to the graduation ceremony has been that the eighth grade students now wear caps and gowns; this decision was made by Ms. Ward and Father Enrique last school year. While this may be a newer aspect to the St. Robert’s graduation ceremony, it is a traditional choice for graduates of all grades across the nation.
Ms. Matthews’ favorite part of this whole experience is when the families share photos which are spliced together in a video, showcasing fond memories of the graduating class. Overall, Ms. Matthews believes that this graduation is an important moment for all of the students: “they have worked so hard through all of their years at St. Robert to prepare themselves for their next step in their life.” She is also “excited to see how they grow and mature in their future.”

This is awesome and the 8th graders graduation is awesome but sad for the kids who look up to the 8th graders. I love that the 8th graders are always making the school day better when you walk by them in the hallway as a new student in 6th grade and at St.Roberts the 8th graders have helped a lot making the year awesome. As a 6th grader I will miss the 8th graders in the hallway. Hope high school is awesome and have fun. St. Robert is your home and everybody home we all will miss you.
