This past summer, two very popular movies came out to the public, furthering well-established  franchises and beloved characters: Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4. Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 have been showing in theaters for months now. 

Rotten Tomatoes, one of the biggest movie reviewing companies in the world, have rated Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4. The Rotten Tomatoes scale vacillates between a likability score of 0% to 100%. A score of 0 would indicate zero interest, thus a very “rotten” movie whereas a score of 100 would indicate a hit in likability or a “fresh” tomato. . The website showcases the opinions of the traditional audience as well as those of the professional film critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Inside Out 2 has 92% out of 100% by critics while Despicable Me 2 has only a 62% by critics. 

Another online source, IMDB, allows people to rate and comment on movies as well. On this website, people suggest that Inside Out 2 was an emotional roller coaster. People were concerned about what was going to happen after the main character, Riley, as she developed new emotions in her teenage years. For Despicable Me 4 the reviews indicated that the installment  in the movie series is not terrible, but it’s not excellent either. Instead, it is an okay addition to the franchise that was entertaining and fun enough to watch, leading to a fine conclusion.

Both of the movies are PG. PG means parental guidance suggested. Although they are both rated PG, I would watch inside out 2 later in life, around the age of 13, for the younger ones, because it talks about puberty and things a slightly older audience would understand more.

Both movies are pretty popular, especially Despicable Me 4 because of its soundtrack/song “Double Life” by Pherral Williams.  Inside Out 2 was popular thanks to the first movie being such a hit and the audience hoping for a sequel for years, a wait time of 9 years compared to Despicable Me 4 with only a 2 year wait after the last Minions movie.

Both of the movies were recently in theaters and hit the box office. Inside Out 2 was very successful this summer. According to deadline.com Inside Out 2 made $652.9M stateside and $1.68B world wide. Also according to forbes.com Inside Out 2 was the biggest box office hit this summer. Despicable Me 4 didn’t do as well, reaching $954.2 million worldwide.
