Recently, at the Milwaukee Skylight Music Theatre, the play, “Oliver!” starring Gus Kolbe as Oliver, was put into production. According to Cathy Jakicic, a movie and play reviewer, “Kolbe nails the often-overwhelmed Oliver’s plaintive voice and wistful manner. AND It’s perfect that Krysiak plays a master pickpocket. She stole every scene that she was in and left me wanting more Dodger.” This seemed like a very good rating. On this same website, there were many other good ratings and
The play is about Oliver Twist, who is a young, British boy, living in an orphanage. Eventually, he gets adopted by a rich family, who soon throw him on the street. Before long, a young girl named “Dodger” finds him on the street and takes him back to his house. At the house Fagin, the leader of the children, welcomes Oliver in. Fagin has trouble owing money to a man named Bill Sikes. Fagin teaches Oliver how to pickpocket like the other children. When Oliver tries this, however, he gets caught. After a while Fagin has not paid what he owes to Bill. Soon Bill gets mad and almost kills Fagin, but is then shot by the police. Oliver ends up finding a new home in the end.
Tickets for Milwaukee Skylight’s production are available for $83 on their website or at the box office. The theatre is located on 158 N Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
