In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, art is defined as “something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings.” Photography is recognized to fall under this category. Since its invention in the 19th century, photography has evolved into something more expressive and unique than just another form of media.
The first photograph was taken in 1826 the picture was titled “View From the Window at Le Gras,” the photograph captured the view from a window. The photographer was a French inventor who wanted a way to capture an image without having to draw it. The first photograph of a person was taken in France from a window. The photographer was Louis Daguerre and the man in the picture was getting his shoes shined.
Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen are believed to have been the first people to establish photography in museums and galleries in the 19th and 20th century. This establishment resulted in photography to be considered an art.
Now, photography is widely recognized as a form of art. Photography is not only an expression of emotion and artistic feeling, but it is almost like a real-life painting. Photography is another art form that is integrated in the language of art, which all artists understand as an outlet for personal experiences. Some photos are meant for cinematic effect, while others are meant to tell a story. No matter the purpose of a picture, photography is appreciated as a beautiful form of art throughout all art communities.
Photography has been a loved art form since its creation. Between its underlying artistic themes, its invention, and its current place in the art world, photography is here to stay.
