Yearbook Club is an important part of St. Robert School, yet not many people know about the club. The Yearbook Club meets once a week in order to produce the annual school yearbook. The club members come up with new, creative ideas for the yearbook. They use a theme to make sure that all of their pages look similar, but not the same. The Yearbook Club is a creative outlet, a collaborative experience, and a place to expand artistic ability.
The club is great for creative kids. Ms. Sekhon says that she thinks the club helps kids use their creativity in new ways that school wouldn’t necessarily allow them too. This creative outlet helps many kids in a different way than school can. Addie says that she can use her creativity in unique ways as she works to design and develop the yearbook. Addie likes to use her creativity to bring her ideas to life in this club. Participating in the club even relaxes Addie, relieving the day’s stress. The yearbook club is always looking for new members because they can use their creativity. Ms. Sekhon is always happy when new kids join because she thinks it helps kids become their best self.
Yearbook Club helps kids collaborate with new people. Addie likes Yearbook Club because she gets to meet new people. This helps her get to know and become better friends with people she normally would not talk to during school because of grade differences. A big part of Yearbook Club is that kids get to experiment with new ideas while meeting and collaborating with new people from other grades. There is always someone who can help a member that is having a hard time. The members that have been around for two years, like Addie, are always willing to help their fellow members who are new or struggling.
Yearbook Club helps students use their artistic ability. In Addie’s words, “ I really like using my creativity for designing.”Addie likes to design and have part of the yearbook because the whole school will receive and cherish the product. Ms. Sekhon thinks that the yearbook club brings out a different side of kids that helps them learn. When kids are artistic, they can try new things and problem solve in new ways, causing them to learn more about a variety of different subjects and strategies.Yearbook Club helps kids become more confident in their artistic abilities.
