St. Robert’s boiler had to be replaced at the end of last school year, and the school has been working on the reinstallation since May of last school year. The boiler is a very important part of our school, for it keeps the entire school nice and warm. Since the boiler was seventy years old, it stopped working effectively so St. Robert had to get a new one.
The boiler project was started in late May of 2025 and will be done hopefully by the end of month. The principal, Mr. Stangler, said that the boiler replacement was not supposed to take as long as it has been taking. It was actually supposed to be down before the new school year began, but there were some obstacles along the way. As of today, October 16th, cement was being poured into the hole they cut into the ground in order to get the old boiler out and the new boiler in. Progress certainly has been made, but the building has been chilly during this transition.
The biggest group of kids impacted at St. Robert has been to the kindergarteners. They have a playground outside called the tot lot. Due to its location next to the boiler project construction zone, they have not been able to use the tot lot. The playground in the tot lot is great super fun to play in, but it did have to get closed off during the project. This may be coming to an end now that the cement has been poured, sealing off the hole left in the ground from the boiler replacement.
At the start of the project Mr. Stangler didn’t know much about the boiler but as he was working with this endeavor, he learned more about the boiler and the important role it plays within the building. He has learned how the boiler works and functions. However, since he didn’t know much about it beforehand, he didn’t know what to expect when it came to the replacement of the boiler system.
There was some concern going into the project that the parents would be worried about how the project would get in the way of kids’ play or things like car lines. However, Mr. Stangler hasn’t got much negative feedback on any of this. The feedback he had got back on the project has been from the parents on the school board, and they have actually offered to help in many ways, supporting the school as it transitions. Mr. Stangler said that they have been a great help throughout this project.
In conclusion, the new boiler system will keep all of St. Robert warm throughout the cold winter, the tot lot will forever be open for the kindergarteners, and the parents are super helpful during this entire process. The new boiler system will improve all of St. Robert in many ways during the winter ahead.
