St. Robert Goes to the Seton

All three of the St. Robert’s 8th grade volleyball teams were invited to the prestigious Elizabeth Ann Seton volleyball tournament. There is one boys’ volleyball team coached by Mrs. Eimers and two girls’ teams, an “A” team coached by Mr. and Mrs. Reilly and a “B” team coached by Mrs. Jurgens and Mr. Koster. All three teams have been successful in their league and tournament play. The boys’ team was seeded, or placed, 11th out of 20 teams, the girls’ A team was placed 5th out of 31 and the girls’ B team was placed 4th out of 28 in the B league tournament.

The girls’ B team automatically advanced because of seeding and the boys were split into pools and that determined final seeding. After the B team’s bye they played a close game with St. Jude and lost by a hair. Both teams were great.

The boys were seeded 11th before pool play. Throughout pool play, they were successful and advance to the next rounds. The boys’ team then lost in the next round against St. Matthias. It was a well fought battle with very passionate fans on both sides, but St. Robert was outmatched.

The girls’ A team played St. Rita in the first round, and won by a large margin. The A team then played St. Charles and won; then, they beat St. Jude in a great game and then beat St. Alphonsus in the semi-finals. This meant they were going to the championship. The team they were going to play was St. Mary Menomonee Falls, a team they recently beat this year in a competitive game where the crowd was intense and the game was close. As game day was arriving and nerves were high, both teams and their huge fan crowd arrived. The teams were ready and excited. The game started and St. Mary Menomonee Falls came out strong winning the first two games, but only by small amounts. The crowd became intense and St. Robert’s looked strong and inspired. They won the third. The game was best three out of five so one more loss meant it was over. The girls brought their best game but couldn’t pull it out. They came in second place, the best finish in St. Robert’s volleyball history. All the teams were great, and congratulations to everyone that participated.
