The Met Gala

On the first monday of May, multiple A-list celebrities attended the yearly Met Gala. The Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Each year there is a theme. The attending celebrities are expected to dress up according to the theme. This year’s theme was gilded glamor. This theme refers to a specific time period: 1870 to 1890.

Many of the celebrities followed the theme while others chose to ignore the theme. Kim Kardashian, Billie Eilish, Lizzo and many more came dressed in their best, most glamorous outfits. Kim Kardashian “cast herself as Marilyn Monroe… she took the original, multimillion-dollar dress Monroe wore when she sang “Happy birthday, Mr President” for a spin.” Kim explained in an interview for Vogue, that in order to wear the dress she had to lose sixteen pounds in order to fit into the dress, for it could not be altered. Many people said, “Nobody else should be seen in that dress,” legendary costume designer Bob Mackie said.

Additionally, Billie Eilish wore a “Gucci look by Alessandro Michele that was made entirely with upcycled materials.” Eilish explained to a Vogue livestream host that she “just wanted to be as eco-friendly as possible.” The dress was pale green, it included a  Gucci corset gown, and a crystal-adorned black choker.

Furthermore, Lizzo attended in “a black corset dress with exaggerated hip dips and a stunning black cape adorned with gold floral embroidery throughout.” She accessorized her look with a stacked gold choker and long, sharp black nails. Multiple people say it was one of the most on theme outfits of the night. Lizzo says, “it took 22 thousand hours to make this coat.” Later while on the carpet, Lizzo brought out a gold flute and played it for the people at the Met.

Many of the celebrities that attended the Met Gala all had wonderful outfits. These three celebrities were nominated for “best dressed at the Met” and it really showed. Each celebrity came in their best dressed.
