Maya’s parents sat on the cold, wet bench while supervising Maya as she played on the swing set. The swings screeched with each sway of the chains: back and forth, back and forth. Maya’s parents watched their daughter loosen her grasp and release the chains, as the swing climbs to an impossible height. The girl was sent flying through the air. Terrified, Maya’s mother screamed:“Maya!” As the frantic mother rushed towards the young girl, Maya’s feet plopped onto the ground. Smiling up at her worried mother, Maya let out a giggle of delight before a fluff of white fur diverted her attention. The cutest little dog pranced across the grass on the other side of the park, panging the girl with a deep desire: she wanted a pup just like that one.
“Can we please get a dog?” Maya begged her parents for the millionth time, for this was a topic she had breached many times before.
Once again her parents retorted, “We are not getting a dog.” Tears came streaming from her eyes as she ran from her parents. Maya could bear to look at her parents after they had said no to her. Even though she was very sad that she couldn’t get a dog, Maya knew she should stop begging, so she shut her mouth.
A little bit later, as she climbed the monkey bars, Maya saw the same cute dog sniffing around the playground. The fluffy white pup playfully trotted around. However, Maya could not see any collar around his neck, and after scanning the area, she noticed that her family were the only people there. This dog appeared to have no owner. . Maya knew that she needed to help the dog because he had no home and no food, plus it was very cold outside, so she went over to the dog, started petting it and then brought it back to her parents. The dog was homeless and she felt super sad about it. The dog was probably freezing and had been out for a while. If the dog had a home, she thought, the pup would have food and water and a great family.
Though her parents had already said that she could not have a pet, she decided that they at least needed to take the dog to the pound. The family brought the dog back to the car and made their way towards the pound. They pulled into the parking lot, took out the dog, and walked the pup up into the building. Maya was very sad that they were going to have to leave the dog behind but she knew that the pound was a better place for it than just being out in the wilderness.
As soon as the family got into the car, Maya started talking. She gave them the reasons that she’s been thinking up all day. “Mom, dad I think that we should get a dog because I will show responsibility, I will take great care of the dog including taking the dog for walks and feeding him, and finally I think it could complete the family. Having a pet would be a good way to bond and spend time outside,” Maya told her parents.
When they got home, they had lunch. While they were having lunch Maya’s parents told Maya, “After a little bit of thinking about these reasons, we think that getting a dog would be a good test for your maturity, Maya, they also agreed that it could complete the family”. Though they didn’t admit it to Maya, they also wanted a dog. Once Maya’s parents had told her that they were going to allow her to have a dog, she burst into tears of joy and hugged her parents so many times.
Maya couldn’t sit still in her seat on the way to the pound, for she was too excited. Maya knew exactly what dog she wanted and it was the one she had just brought in that day. She told her parents that this was the one she wanted and her parents agreed to getting it for her. As soon as they got to the pound, Maya went straight to the dog’s cage. Maya was so excited when it was finally time to leave with the dog.
Mine was so happy when they got home because she got to have a dog but also the dog now had a home. The dog didn’t have to live at the pound or out in the middle of nowhere it got to live with Maya and her family.
