Every school year brings with it a new beginning. This school year, St. Robert School welcomes a new middle school science teacher, Ms. Masshardt after the beloved science teacher, Mr. Rampolla left last school year. After only being here for 2 months, the middle school students at St. Robert love Ms. Masshart and she always brings smiles to every student’s face.
Ms. Masshardt has loved science since her own days as a student. She stated that her fifth grade science teacher inspired her to become a teacher. Ms. Masshardt likes that science offers many different solutions to a problem. She also likes doing investigations and experiments to solve problems.
Ms. Masshardt is an experienced science teacher, and before joining St. Robert School, she taught fifth grade science for eight years and fourth grade science for three years. She had good experiences with both classes. She enjoyed doing a science fair project with her fifth grade class. With her fourth grade class, she enjoyed sharing in their fun as the students learned about electricity and energy.
For the middle schoolers at St. Robert School, Ms. Masshardt’s goal is “for everyone to realize that science is fun and an important part of everyday life.” She wants to make science an engaging and fun class. She hopes to show students that science can be fun, as students will learn by doing and will share their knowledge with others. Ms. Masshardt believes that an important part of science class is having students participate in experiments. Her favorite part of class is watching students recognize that there is a connection between the experiments that take place in class and things that happen in real life. Ms. Masshardt’s favorite science topics are chemistry and physics. She thinks those topics are a lot of fun and that students can do many different things to explore them.
Ms. Masshardt not only loves being a teacher and making learning fun for her students, but she also has an affinity for dinosaurs. Surely, this interest is another reason she is drawn to science. She said that everyone at St. Robert School has been welcoming and that she is “loving being part of the St. Robert community.” The students are very fortunate to have her teaching them this year. Kids in middle school are enjoying learning with Ms. Masshardt and hopefully, will find inspiration in science, just as Ms. Masshardt did from her teacher when she was a student.
