Livy’s aunt and uncle finally confronted Livy. Her mother was gone. Livy was devastated. She didn’t know how to feel, so she flew away and went to mourn.
Livy wanted to clear her mind; she was trying to forget that everything that happened was her fault, that her parents not being home was her fault. As days passed, Livy and the others had to conclude the worst: the hunter had gotten Livy’s parents. Livy’s aunt and uncle tried to convince Livy that the death of her parents wasn’t her fault. However, Livy could not believe them. She knew that her parents would have never entered the dangerous forest if they had not been chasing after Livy.
In an attempt to help Livy move forward, her uncle and aunt showered her with attention, so much so that her cousins grew jealous of Livy. Livy didn’t notice this until the littlest cousin, Emma, started to try to “win” back Livy’s aunt. Coming along for this mission was Emma’s brother Ian, but all he did was tell his mom negative things about Livy in order to sour her view of Livy.
Livy never found out about all the mischievous things that her cousins were doing until one day her aunt came to her and lectured Livy about a chore Livy neglected to do. Livy, at this point, was confused; she didn’t realize that her aunt was keeping tabs on her like this or that anyone still expected her to complete chores. Then, her aunt revealed the source. Her aunt told her, “Ian said you…”
That’s when Livy knew what was going on. Even though Livy was annoyed by her cousins’ immature behavior, she didn’t let their tattling get to her. She was already so devastated by her parent’s death. The last thing she needed was to find herself in a new family full of drama and discomfort. She decided it was time to come up with an idea to repair her new family before it imploded. A light bulb went off in her head, and though Livy found herself thinking a lot about her parent’s death, she became determined to fix all the drama that was going around.
Livy went to her aunt and uncle to figure out exactly what Ian was saying in order to get her in trouble. She figured she could clear up any confusion and apologize for things she had forgotten to do in her grief. However, as Livy flew towards her aunt and uncle, she was distracted by a small bat flying towards the forest – the forest responsible for her parent’s death. Livy called out, but the small bat didn’t hear her. The little one disappeared into the thick branches of the forest. Livy wanted to try to help, but she knew she couldn’t do it alone, for the forest was far too dangerous. After all the trauma she had been through, she couldn’t bear to face the forest alone. This is when Livy knew she had to go talk to her cousins to help.
She flew straight to them and asked Emma and Ian, but they turned her down. Emma and Ian resented Livy; they wouldn’t want to go on a long adventure with her or help her in any way.
Then, Livy was left with no choice: she was going to go alone, for she knew her aunt and uncle would never agree to such a mission. She approached the forest, and hesitated. Glancing back towards her home, she saw Emma and Ian giggling and pointing at her, shouting teases that she was not brave enough to enter the woods. As Livy’s face fell into and tears welled up in her eyes, Ian and Emma felt a pang of guilt. Livy was terrified and broken, and they knew that what they were doing was not right. They rushed to catch up with Livy, to embrace her in this vulnerable state. When Livy looked up and saw Ian and Emma flying towards her, a blip of hope rose from deep within her.
Ian and Emma apologized for the awful things they did to Livy, and with that, the cousins surged carefully but with determination into the forest in search for the bat who had entered its depths unknowingly. The cousins didn’t know where the little bat went, and they had no real plan for recovery, but they prayed they would find her before the hunter did.
After flying for a long time, Livy caught a glimpse of a small bat flying away towards a tangled group of trees. If the bat entered those trees, she surely would get lost, so Livy dashed after her as fast as she could. Ian and Emma trailed after Livy.. Ian and Emma shouted after the little bat, trying to warn her. At that moment, Livy realized how much her aunt, uncle, and even her cousins had sacrificed to make sure that she was happy and safe. She realized that Ian and Emma must have given up a lot as their parents devoted all of their time to Livy.
