This year Ms. Schulz, the seventh and eighth grade Social Studies and Literature teacher, resigned after twenty seven years of service. After this event, a new teacher had to be put into the classroom. Many teachers stepped up to help, including Mr. O’Brien, Ms. Holdahl, Mrs. Kowalski, and Ms. Powers. With having so many different teachers, Netta, a student at St. Roberts school says, “All the teachers have different opinions and knowledge on the units we are learning. I like being able to see all different sides of this learning.”
The primary teacher who has taken over for Ms. Schulz is Ms. Powers. She used to serve as a substitute for St. Robert and other schools in the area. Prior to subbing, she was a teacher at another school. She is currently in graduate school working towards a school counselor degree and license. She found out about the teaching position at St. Robert when “The principal called [her] and asked if [she] would be up for the job”
Ms. Powers says that “So far great St. Robert is awesome; the staff and students are wonderful.” She also says that she loves teaching Social Studies but if she had to have it any other way she would teach a class like Art or Physical Education. Mrs. Powers says that when teaching eighth grade she enjoys teaching the stock market and in seventh grade she loves to teach History Mysteries. Netta says that “[Ms. Powers] is an excellent teacher. I had met her before when she was subbing for other teachers, and I am very glad she is one of the many people helping with Social Studies class!”
Netta feels that in Social Studies the students are learning a lot from their many teachers. Netta says, “I think the transitions are going pretty smoothly right now. I don’t currently see a way [the teachers] could improve.” Many children are feeling very welcomed and well-educated in the updated classroom. This is happening because of Ms. Powers and the help of many others!
