The Thanksgiving food drive at St. Robert is just starting up again. The Thanksgiving food drive is a collection of food organized by the school that then gets donated to the St. Martin de Porres Food Pantry. This is the same food pantry that St. Robert donates SAM collections every Friday at the school Mass as well. In previous years the school has donated to the Capuchin Food Pantry. However, since they already have a lot of support throughout Milwaukee, the school is donating to a different pantry this holiday season.
When students donate to St. Martin de Porres they donate Thanksgiving items and each grade has their own food item they need to bring. Last year’s 7th grade brought in a bunch of mac n cheese which helped a lot to the capuchin and this year St. Robert is hoping people are just as generous. However, not just 7th grade was generous, the entire St. The Robert community was very generous and that was very appreciated by the Capuchin food drive.
This year the food drive will take place throughout the month of November. Everyone including the teachers have to bring something in by November 20th, so the students have about 20 days to bring a food item in. Each grade has to bring in something different for example 4k is responsible for bring in mash potatoes, 5k stuffing, 1st grade corn, 2nd grade crispy fried onions, 3rd grade green beans, 4th grade cream of mushroom soup, 5th grade corn bread, 6th grade apple sauce, 7th grade cranberry sauce, 8th grade jello/pudding. Finally teachers are also responsible for bringing something in, which they will be bringing in gravy!
In order to spread holiday spirit and do good for the christian faith people at St. Robert school brings in food so that people in our community of Milwaukee can have a wonderful Thanksgiving just like the rest of us!
