After seeing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, I have a lot to put in this review. If you haven’t seen the first one, here is a brief flashback. In the first movie, Flint Lockwood creates a machine that can turn water into food. At first, his invention is a big hit until the machine goes haywire and almost destroys the whole island of Swallow Falls, where Flint lives, and the entire world. Back to the second movie; in this movie Flint and his friends venture to Swallow Falls (which is buried under mounds of food) after being relocated to San Franjose, California to search for the supposedly “living food” to help Chester V, Flint Lockwood’s childhood hero and all other citizens of the earth. Speaking of Chester V, I don’t think I would want to be in the place that Chester puts Flint in, when Chester makes Flint decide to choose between him (Chester) or his friends. I  would have chose my friends, but Flint chose Chester V.  But, I could see the angle Chester was trying to hit at with the food machine.

When learning all about how Flint’s machine could turn food into living creatures, I thought of how creative the designers were with how they turned the island of Swallow Falls into a living food court. For example instead of calling them flamingoes, they’re called “flamangoes” because they’re made of mangoes. As I watched on, I was surprised by the real secrets inside the pile of food. I will try not to give away too many things if you are still waiting to see the movie. I will have to say is my favorite part is their curious companion, a strawberry that Flint’s “girlfriend” Sam dubs Barry, who will stick with them no matter what.

From the scariest food creations to the most adorable little foods, every detail was amazing. I think it gave a new meaning to the phrase “playing with your food.” Yet there were some moments when I wondered the character would ever do something or believe that I thought were crazy, like when Flint agrees to do something for six months without anyone there with him in except for, of course, his trusty monkey Steve. I cannot say that at some moments it had me doubled over laughing, but most of the time it was funny in a cute way.

Even though it didn’t turn out the way I thought, and even if the way they played out with the animals made no sense to me. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves a good laugh and living food.
