Random Acts of Kindness

A little act of kindness can make your day, even if it’s just a smile. When someone does something out of the kindness of their heart and asks for nothing in return, they deserve to be recognized.  Every issue of the newspaper will feature a random act of kindness performed by someone in the school.

Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving in one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” God is always watching over us and wants us to be kind and caring to one another, and when we do an act of kindness we don’t need to take credit because we will be rewarded in heaven. Try to be selfless and realize that random acts of kindness are for the benefit of others, and not for you. When you do a random act of kindness, people are likely to return the favor.  Although we shouldn’t be acting kind in order to receive attention, the newspaper staff at St. Robert does want to recognize what might otherwise seem to go unnoticed.

But even if an article is not written about you, being kind still has its internal rewards.  When you perform a random act of kindness, you get this really warm and proud feeling that makes you just as happy as the person you helped. Beware, once you start acknowledging and performing random acts of kindness, it is hard to stop! It doesn’t have to be a huge deed because even little acts to help make someone’s day easier and can make a huge difference. Just think about it, if everyone contributed just a few random acts of kindness every day the community would be a much happier and healthier environment for us to live in.

For the rest of the school year, be on the lookout for people who aren’t looking to be recognized and are always helping others with random acts of kindness. You can acknowledge a random act of kindness that happened to you, or you can acknowledge a random act of kindness that you saw someone do when they thought no one was watching.

Please email Mrs. Riepenhoff and the newspaper staff at [email protected]  telling the newspaper about the act of kindness, or drop it off at the blue submissions box in the library. Include your name and anything you would like the school to know about the act of kindness.

Make sure to be aware of others who are acting kind and try to make the school a better place by performing random acts of kindness without looking for anything in return. God will always know and praise you when you make good choices and act kindly, and now St. Robert will too!
