6th Grade Student Council Class Representatives

6th Grade Student Council Class Representatives

Have you ever wondered what student representatives do?  Christie Cook and Noel Frazier are two of the four student representatives of sixth grade. These students were elected from Mrs. Riepenhoff’s homeroom. I recently had a chance to talk to them about what they do.

When I asked Christie why she decided to become a student representative, she said that one reason is she would have a chance to interact with other older kids. She thought her voice would be heard more. She also thought it would be great to work on fundraisers, and come up with new things to do instead of bake sales with sugary treats (since it is a low sugar school). She would also ask the opinion of others, and how they think St. Robert could improve. Anyone who wants to interact with other grade levels and help others’ opinions be heard might learn from Christie’s example.

Noel Frazier is our other student representative from Mrs. Riepenhoff’s homeroom. He also wants to help others. He said, “I thought it would be fun to represent people and help other places that aren’t even our school.” Some of the things he plans to do is help out with sports more, such as our mascot.  And already, there have been some great changes.  This year the student council organized getting the mascot cleaned and deciding who will be the mascot for different events. We have not had the mascot in so long, and it is nice to show more school spirit. Also, like Christie, Noel plans to help work on fundraisers, like Slipper Day, and finding more ways to have fun and show school spirit without the sugar.  Noel is an example of someone who loves sports and wants to include more school spirit into student council activities.

Let’s hope these students can speak for the voices that aren’t always heard and make a difference in our school.  We can look forward to changes for more fun activities and school spirit this school year. Maybe, like Christie and Noel, you’ll want to try out for student council some day.
