Recently the annual St. Robert Bucketfest, a basketball tournament for the eighth grade boys and girls, took place, and the tournament was a big success. The boys played well until they fell to St. Mary, Menominee Falls in the championship game. The 8th grade girls on the other hand played on a combined team with St. Eugene and St. Monica, so the seventh grade girls stepped in and played in the eighth grade tournament as well to create more competition. Overall the Bucketfest was a great success because Bucketfest was organized well and the players were able to show off their skills.
The organizer and creator of the tournament was Jared Scholz, the coach of last year’s eighth grade boys. Bucketfest was organized so that each team that entered played a total of three games. Also, the tournament was scheduled so teams that were far away only had to make two trips to St. Robert. The tournament was organized well as the timing of games was efficiently managed, with each game happening on schedule with no delays. This tournament was only the second year the tournament has happened, yet it ran smoothly without any major issues. Being the second year, Mr. Scholz found the tournament a bit easier to organize because there was more of a push to get teams to enter the tournament.
Two St. Robert teams entered the girls bracket, St. Robert’s combined team with St. Monica and St. Eugene and the seventh grade girls team. This bracket also included St. Sebastian’s and The Shorewood Greyhounds. The combined St. Monica/St. Robert/ St. Eugene team came in third place out of four teams. The tournament was really fun to play in according to Kellen, a member of the St. Robert combined team. An aspect of why the tournament was fun was because the crowd was loud and supportive. The seventh grade St. Robert team had to enter the tournament despite being a year younger than all the other teams. It was very difficult for them to keep up with the older, better teams so they ended up in fourth place.
The St. Robert boys team placed second in the tournament with a loss to St. Mary, Menominee Falls in the championship game. The team won all their previous games to Mother of Good Council and St. Sebastian. Both wins were won by more than ten points. The crowd was really big for the championship game, and both teams played very hard. The Bobcats made a rally toward the end of the game, but still lost the game by double digits.
The tournament was organized very well, both St. Robert girls teams played, and the boys placed an impressive second in the boys bracket. Mr. Scholz did an excellent job of organizing the tournament due to it being his second year of hosting the Bucketfest. The seventh grade girls and eighth grade girls both played in the tournament which is very rare. Lastly, the boys came in second place to a very good St. Mary’s team, and they rolled over their other opponents. The Bucketfest was a huge success and St. Robert hosted the tournament extremely well, hopeful next year will be even better.
