Seventh Grade Girls Metro Volleyball Team

Currently the best team in the league right now, St. Robert has a 10-0 record. Our team couldn’t have had a better season. Going into our first tournament, at St. Leonard’s, we are practicing hard.  Weekend, after weekend as a team, we strive to win.  Our team consists of Kelley Schlise, Sophia Schueller, Emma Cepukenas, Carsen Capati, Rose Ziebert, Olivia Reilly, Olivia Kessenich, and Maggie O’Loughlin. With only six players on the court we have to work for a spot and cover lots of court.  Our practices are tough, and we are pushed to our limits.  Our coaches, Mr. Reilly and Mrs. Reilly expect the most out of us, as a 7th grade Metro team.

Each practice we are expected to give 120%. Volleyball is a passion in each one of our lives, which is why we try to improve at every opportunity.  With many of our teammates trying out for clubs and making tough decisions, it is a very busy time of the year for us.

As a team we have made it through a few tough wins.  We missed some players entering two matches, which was extremely tough for us. We played St. Dominic’s, a team stacked with many experienced players, without Olivia Reilly, and played St. Jude’s, another great team, without Sophia Schueller.  Against both teams we played three games to determine the winner of the match.  For both matches the opposing team won the first game, which just put extra pressure on our team.  All of us took all the endurance inside us, and finished the matches off with no burden, pulling out wins for both.

Volleyball is not only a great sport to play, but a great way to support one another. This year as a team we have bonded like no other, and have learned to encourage each other after mistakes made out on the court. Volleyball really is a team sport, and we have definitely learned that throughout the year. We’ve got each others backs through it all.  We all realized that everybody makes mistakes, and we need to encourage each other to keep going.

We hoped to have a winning streak of an undefeated record, and we made it.   We finished on a high note by receiving first place at the annual end of the year St. Dominic’s Tournament.  Thankfully, we won our last game of the season, won the St. Mary’s Hails Corners tournament, and finished as the #1 team in our league.  Thank you for all your support this season!
