6th Grade Boys Basketball Update

The St. Robert 6th grade basketball team is coached by Greg Enes and assisted by my dad, Brian Timmis.  Javier Loya, one of our shooting guard/point guard, says, “I think we are going to have a great season.”  Evan Lewis, our forward, is excited about playing tough teams like Lumen Christi.  Noel Frazier, another point guard/shooting guard, is excited to run our offense.  I, who play center, think that if we really work hard we could go undefeated.

I’ve already said some players positions but I’ll say them again. Guards: Noel Frazier, Avery Adams, Grant Conlon, and Javier Loya. Forwards: Thomas Gamblin, Evan Lewis, Harry Coffou, Dominic Demichele.  Centers: Sean Timmis and Peter Vittucci.  Even though I said the positions Coach Enes says,  “With our offense anyone can play anything.”

Our main goal as a team is to go undefeated in league play.  Coach Enes says if we rebound, make free-throws and we have no turnovers we will win most or all of our games. Last year we had two teams, each with 7 players.  This year we have one team of eleven players so we have a better chance of going undefeated.

Right now we are 2-0 so that hope still lives.  In our first game against Hope Christian School, we started out winning and it stayed that way.  I did not talk to Coach Enes but I did talk to my dad and he felt that one of the reasons we won was that we played with fundamentals like we boxed out and made our shots while Hope was taking 3-pointers.  In the end we won by a score of 38-16.

In our second game we played the U.S.M. Blue Team.

In that game we were never down, and although they had someone taller than everyone on our team, we battled it out and won 27-12.

In our practices we have been working on defense  and free-throws because our percentage is not the best.  We also do a lot of running, like suicides every practice.  All in all though our team is off to a great start.
