A Christmas Wish

The cold snow fell so gracefully on the rooftops of childrens’ homes. The snowflakes were like snow fairies dancing in the sky as little children went by. The stores were filled with people finding gifts for their loved ones. The baker was busy making gingerbread for all. Streets were filled with kids waiting to sit on Santa’s lap, to tell him what they want for Christmas. Perhaps they might catch a glimpse of the reindeer, too! Soon it was time for all to sleep, for it is Christmas Eve and one little boy named Jack Tweet was hoping for his wish to come true.

This little boy had no parents and he lived with his grandpa but there one one thing about this boy; he couldn’t talk! His grandpa tried everything. He didn’t know if if was from sadness that the boy did not utter a word. Maybe he just needed the confidence. Grandpa was sure that Jack had lots of stories to share. Day after day Jack wished he could talk but it never happened. One Christmas, as he wrote Santa, he decided to ask that this be his gift. He wrote, “Will you let me talk?”

At Santa’s workshop, Santa saw Jack’s letter and said, “Let’s all try to get this boy his wish of being able to talk!”

So the elves went to work and so did old Claus, trying to figure out a scheme to get the words out of this boy. Santa decided that this little boy needed a friend to share all his thoughts with. Would a doll do? No. How about a new toy train? Probably not. Then he remembered that a dog is a man’s best friend. Santa Claus put out word around the North Pole, looking for a volunteer. A beautiful Husky puppy, who was also orphaned, said that he wanted to be Jack’s faithful friend. Santa got him ready for the long trip to Jack’s house and off they went.

On Christmas morning, when Jack saw the puppy, he then yelled out, “Oh my, it’s a dog! I will name him Frosty!”

He suddenly realized that these were the first words he had said. His grandpa was so happy to see the little boy finally talk.

It was a merry Christmas after all! Jack is still talking about it.
